Cedar Shakes

Cedar Shakes

Cedar Shakes – A Beautiful Well-Rounded Investment First and foremost, cedar shakes or shingles are inarguably easy on the eyes. It’s difficult to compete with the natural look of adorning your home with sawn or split wood. Nevertheless, they wouldn’t be so widely used if their aesthetic appeal wasn’t backed up by their quality and versatility. Cedar shingles are inherently resistant to windy and severe weather, including hail, which is no small feat.Their natural wood fibers help absorb the impact of hail and also work to minimize freezing and thawing damage. Your cedar roof also functions as insulation, a naturally stronger thermal protectant than many other materials. Light weight, durable and energy efficient, not to mention a natural insect repellent compared to other woods, cedar shingles are all around structurally sound. Not only do they last a long time, but they age very well. Just as copper develops a patina over time, cedar roofing develops a distinguished silvery tone over the years. Cedar shakes are a more roughly hewn, rustic version of wood roofing. Cedar shake roofing tends to be thicker and look more three dimensional, whereas shingles are flatter, smoother and more refined. And while typical wooden roofing can deteriorate quickly, a cedar roof will last much longer as it is more resistant to mold and rot. It’s longevity is followed by pine shakes, another fairly resistant wood. The Art of Cedar Roof Maintenance Cedar shingles or shakes aren’t simply a commodity but an investment to look after with the proper care and roofing supplies. To optimize its lifespan and minimize roof maintenance costs, your cedar roof should be regularly repainted and resealed and check for cracked or split shingles. And while this may sound like too much work, we like to think of think of it not so much as a chore but instead as tending to a prized piece of wooden furniture—a piano or desk, for instance. It’s something that you need to keep in mind and check up on, but you wouldn’t dream of going without it. Wood: The Eco Friendly Roofing Shingle Installation This may seem counter-intuitive at first—if we are using up natural resources for our own purposes, aren’t we hurting rather than helping? In some countries, yes, but Canada boasts excellent deforestation regulations, and under legal obligation the annual harvests must be replanted. And it is much better to use an organic material, as the real issue these days is unnecessary and excessive waste. Wood will not be left sitting in a landfill many many years after the time comes for your roof replacement, it will naturally deteriorate. The Look without the Lumber If you’re a die-hard wood fan, it’s tough to beat the substance and the look. But if you just like the look enough, but you’re not interested in this high-end material you can approximate it with certain styles of specialized asphalt shingles or architectural shingles. Timberline shingles, a leading North American manufacturer and one of our top product lines, creates asphalt Read More »

50 Year Asphalt Roof Shingles

50 Year Asphalt Roof Shingles

Asphalt Shingle Roofing Materials – Long-Time Favorite Asphalt shingles were first used at the turn of the 20th century, and since then have undergone a variety of tests, improvements and developments. Less costly than many other roofing shingles, including slate, wood or metal, they are also known for quick and easy shingle installation. This is partly because it’s one of the most common, widely used roofing materials-you can find. They are also lightweight, simple to fasten, and easier to work with overall than many other roofing materials. Asphalt roofing offers more than the run-of-the-mill product, and the variety often surprises homeowners. So give Halton Hills Roofing a Call for your own 50 Year Guaranteed Shingles at (905) 702-2306. Enhanced Variations of Asphalt Shingles Traditional or organic asphalt roof installations have a felt base underpayment, a waterproof shingle layer, and a layer of granules that reflect damaging ultraviolet rays. These are produced in single layer strips, with the appearance of entirely separate shingles. Fiberglass shingles have a fiberglass base mat, so they are stronger, lighter weight, and take less materials. While the organic asphalt shingle is still a popular choice—some like it for its durability and flexibility—fiberglass shingles have become quite popular. Their smaller amount of asphalt also makes them more environmentally friendly. Either of these options can come in 3-tab or Architectural Shingles. 3-tab are a more simple design while architectural are thicker, more dimensional, and often last longer and so come with longer manufacturer warranties. More Visual than you Might Think Architectural shingles are a more stylish and slightly different design. Unlike their flat 3-tab counterpart, architectural shingles are produced in thicker layers to give them the desired three-dimensional effect. The bottom section of each shingle has an extra laminated layer of asphalt, giving it the contoured, more dynamic look that it’s named for. Architectural shingles aren’t the only visually appealing type of asphalt shingle. As technology and design has developed and branched out, many convincingly imitate the look of wood, slate or tile. You have a wide variety of colors and textures to choose from with the familiar maintenance and low cost of asphalt shingle installation. Reliable Roofing Lifespan Asphalt shingles typically last from about one and a half to three decades, depending on your climate. Extreme heat spikes, for instance, tend to curl and wear them down a little more quickly. In colder climates, maintenance and cleaning has a lot to do with it. It’s beneficial if you’re able to prevent snow buildup and ice dams. Any roofing shingles have their particular susceptibilities to the elements, and this material has been around so long that there really are no more surprises. We can help you make sure your shingle installation is for your house’s architecture, your local environment and your climate. Any reasonable homeowner wants lifetime shingles for their house and- while there are no hard and fast guarantees- whatever shingle roof you go with we will be sure you have a great warranty to cover both our installation job Read More »

Georgetown Roofers

Georgetown Roofers

Roofing in Georgetown, Our Home Halton Hills Roofers: Literally your Neighbours For over two decades, our roofing contractors have proudly provided continuous, high quality roof installation, repair and maintenance to our own in Halton Hills, Old and New Georgetown as well as the surrounding areas and neighbourhoods. Georgetown roofs and gutters have been our mission from the inception of our business, and continue to be, especially with our recent increases in commercial businesses. Whether you’ve got a new or old building, Halton Hills roofers are dedicated to helping you maintain your image and protect your exterior and interior. Give us a Call at (905) 702-2306. Unique Georgetown Roofs and Buildings New and Old Georgetown have developed their own claims to identity, through a variety of ways including their incorporation of trails, skate parks and other recreational activities and industries. Especially since it’s a richly historic community, architecture and the visual appeals of houses and buildings play an important role in helping maintain a sense of community and cohesion. Toronto architect E. J. Lennox, for instance, has two distinguished buildings in Georgetown, Berwick Hall and Georgetown High School. Part of maintaining this historic sensibility and aesthetic is, of course, taking care of the buildings themselves. That’s why roofing Georgetown has always been something we take personally. The homes, museums, galleries, schools and local businesses of Halton Hills are literally in our backyard, and we have a strong sense of responsibility in taking care of our local residents and fellow business owners. We consider all Georgetown roofs to be the roofs over our neighbours’ heads, as well as their families’, and we are proud to be a part of this beautiful community. Roofing Georgetown, Old and New Asphalt shingles continue to be one of our most commonly purchased products, and not without reason. Our roofing contractors are certified experts in installing asphalt shingles on houses, old and new. Due to their popularity, asphalt shingles are almost always readily available. They are easy and one of the most inexpensive to install, and after they give you a good decade or two, you can either recycle the old shingles or sometimes just put a brand new roof right over top of it, depending on the materials you’re using next. And there is plenty of variety within asphalt shingles, including the traditional 3-tab shingle, fiberglass, and architectural shingles. Architectural shingles are a more dynamically designed and durable roofing material. They are made out of a fiberglass base with mineral granules put into waterproof asphalt. Their layout and individual shingle design creates a more visually exciting, layered look, more dramatic than your typical 3-tab shingle (which is why they are sometimes called “dimensional shingles”). Whatever selection you go with, we are confident you will find something that matches and beautifully accentuates a new modern home as well as a historic, brick home. We look forward to helping renovate your home, roofing Milton, roofing in Oakville, Georgetown, other neighbourhood cities for years to come, with the same Read More »

Dimensional Asphalt Shingles

Dimensional Asphalt Shingles

Architectural Shingles: A Marriage of Tradition and Innovation  GTA Roof Installation that Is Luxurious and Durable.  Sometimes also known as laminated or dimensional roof shingles, architectural shingles are a high quality brand of standard organic asphalt shingles. Like fiberglass shingles, they have a fiberglass base and reflective mineral granules set into a waterproof asphalt layer. Architectural roofing is, however, notably thicker, more textured, and with a heavier coating of granules than standard fiberglass and standard organic asphalt shingles. While architectural roofing products are most immediately praised for their visual appeal, the difference isn’t only cosmetic. While the roofing materials are similar, architectural shingles will last you up to twice as long as standard organic asphalt shingles. And as a higher quality shingle, they will help add to the value of your house. New roof installation is a slightly more rigorous process since it involves more arrangement and layering. And while it’s difficult to beat the ease of shingle installation on traditional asphalt roofing, with the right roofing contractors, architectural shingles are still quicker and easier to install than the roofing materials they visually replicate (like the thicker cedar). This all around extra durability means they are more leak resistant and reflect damaging ultraviolet rays more effectively. Their weight also contributes to their durability and their wind resistance, which is up to twice that of standard asphalt. Because of all this, they have a longer lifespan, need to be replaced less often, and proudly carry the brand of Lifetime shingles. While typical asphalt often comes with a 10-30 year Manufacturer’s Warranty, our Architectural Shingles have a 50 Year Manufacturer’s Warranty: which tells you something about our confidence in their durability! Roof Installation in Oakville and Milton: Finely-Tuned Aesthetics A regular shingle installation will run them in straight, flat in rows, while architectural shingles are more varied and layered. Whereas the standard three tab are all the same size, the individual architectural shingles vary in size to add to the visual effect. This makes your roof look less like a typical roof installation and more like shakes—more dynamic, more shadowed, more three dimensional. The sizing isn’t the only thing that contributes to this. While standard asphalt shingles do offer you a reasonable amount of selection, architectural can replicate the pattern, colour and look of wood, slate or tile roofing materials. And as a little added bonus, the visual variation helps hide any minor damage or cosmetic manufacturing irregularities that may occasionally crop up. Given their structural resemblance to shakes, they don’t perform as well on particularly low slope roofs, but they are a fine selection for almost all residential pitches. If these visual effects and adjustments sound minor or unimportant, you’ll be surprised when you actually see these two roofing products side the side. Even if you aren’t looking for it, the difference is impossible not to notice and appreciate. Well-Rounded Residential Roofing: Appeal and Performance The combination of visual appeal and lower maintenance performance is tough to argue with. Even homeowners who Read More »

Roofing Shingles Guide

Roofing Shingles Guide

Roofing Shingles – Do You Know How To Choose Right? Maximize Your Investment by Knowing What You Want Making the investment into new roofing shingles for your home isn’t an easy or a quick decision. There’s nothing intuitive about shingles and roofing supplies; there are however an extraordinary amount of options. This is a choice that will be with you for decades; it’s good to start with what you need and what you like. Based on your previous experience in your home, what sorts of problems have you had, and how could your new roofing shingles address and prevent those? How did you like the look of your last shingles; what do you want to change or keep the same? And, of course, how much are these new roofing shingles going to cost you? Knowing what’s available to you is half the battle and one of the first steps in making an informed decision for future of your residential roofing is by calling (905) 702-2306. Halton Hills is dedicated to offering only high quality shingles, our asphalt boasts an extended 50 Year manufacturer’s warranty rather than the typical 25 year. Below we’ve listed and described a few of the popular favorites. Popular Pitched Roof Materials Architectural Asphalt: Shingles made of asphalt are one of the most common and popular residential roofing styles you’ll see. While they may not have as impressive a lifespan, asphalt shakes are still one of the most inexpensive choices available and one of the easiest to install. We can offer them in a wide variety of colors to match your home’s aesthetic needs. Fiberglass Shingles: Asphalt shakes combined with fiberglass. They are a newer, stronger, very resilient roof tile made out of the same material as the insulation of the same name. Fiberglass shingles are non-porous and won’t curl or bend, they are very light weight and can be more inexpensive than other asphalt roof materials. Professional installation is important for fiberglass shingles in order to prevent them from splitting in the cold weather. Otherwise, they stand up to all climates very well. Architectural Shingles: Asphalt or fiberglass roofing shingles that are much thicker and more durable than typical shingles. They are higher quality, and they last longer than typical shingles. They can often be designed to look like natural materials, like slate or cedar. This is achieved through a coating of laminated mineral. They are called “architectural shingles” due to their appearance, which is often described as dramatic or impressive, due to the shadow lines their design creates – they are also known as dimensional shingles due to their thickness. Cedar Shakes: One of the most beautiful choices available. Cedar roofing ages very well, both in terms of protective performance and in terms of their stunning visual appeal. Cedar shingles are also known for serving as a natural insulation that is noticeably higher than other materials, which means you’ll save on energy costs. This material is one of the most striking options on the market and will make your home Read More »

Exterior Siding

Exterior Siding

Beyond Quality Roofing: Siding Oakville for a Long-lasting Future Protecting Your Home In More Ways Than One Other than roofing, siding material and installation is a major part of keeping your home insulated and protected. To compliment both the protection and aesthetics of your GTA roofing, siding choices we provide come from carefully selected providers and manufacturers. Our professional siding installation jobs will only be as good as the materials we’re installing, so we commit ourselves to finding producers who are invested in the well-being of our customers. Choosing a Premium GTA Siding Company Behind every great roofing company is an equally great manufacturer. Kaycan, our exterior cladding supplier, is a family owned business, committed to both consistent values and continual innovation. They’re a leading producer of vinyl, metal and wood sidings for homes and businesses across the world. Through Kaycan, we are able to offer our customers an unbeatable warrantied array of vinyl siding options, ranging from sleeker, modern styles to natural looking wood grains. We can also recommend products designed specifically for various residential, commercial and industrial environments, including indoor paneling. While we also champion ecologically friendly materials, Ware able to offer you a particular selection of products that perform at a higher standard of environmental conscientiousness and efficiency, from production to packaging and shipment to recycling or reusing. Between our premium siding company partners and our own siding installation and repair expertise, your home will have top quality, long lasting performance for roofing, cladding, and all around protection. Versatile Vinyl Exterior Siding Vinyl is one of the least expensive options for residential exterior cladding. It’s light weight, making it easier to transport and install: which also saves you money.  But we know that just a low price isn’t enough reason to back a product. Vinyl will also give your home extremely durable protection: it can stand up to a wide range of unpleasant temperatures and high speed winds without cracking or buckling. And since vinyl doesn’t absorb water or moisture, it performs well in the heaviest rains and under particularly humid conditions. No, it is not as durable as metal but it certainly will provide you with excellent protection for a low price. Vinyl exterior siding also offers extra insulation to cover the areas of your home that are unevenly insulated. Most homes, by the nature of the way they’re built, don’t have any insulation between the cladding and the wooden framework, and vinyl siding will work for you as cost effective bonus insulation. Vertical vinyl siding installation can give your home a unique look, in either a classic smooth finish or a wood grain design to give your exterior walls the look of wooden planks. The interlocking planks will give you the same benefits and protection as horizontal vinyl. Engineered Wood & Metal Siding We are also proud to be able to offer engineered wood to our residents and homeowners. Engineered wood exterior cladding gives you the beauty, protection and insulation of other wood siding without the Read More »

Roofing Repairs

Roofing Repairs

Halton Hills Elite Roofing Repair Services Keeping up on Roof Repairs Regular, professional roof repair is a key component for maintaining the security, comfort, and efficiency of your home or building. A prolonged roof leak is the last thing anyone wants to hassle with. Neglected leak repair or other damage can result in larger scale, more expensive and time-consuming issues, not just for roofs: moldy deteriorating siding and softened foundations can be caused with uncontrolled water too. Procrastinated roofing repair can also completely weaken the energy efficiency of your home and insulation; and any kind of extensive roof leak can damage the interior of your home and your possessions. Many people don’t know the amount of damage that can occur before they even detect the leak in the interior of their home. By then your roof deck could be rotted and the inside of your walls moldy, assuming the water didn’t make contact with any electrical equipment in the walls and start a fire. Vigilant roofing repair can help you prevent unnecessary and costly damages and let you get the maximum lifespan out of your roofing material. Brand new roofs can be an inconvenient expense for many home and business owners; regular repairs that serve to prevent further damage will help you squeeze the most years out of your roof. Roof Leak Repair and Other Common Problems The need for professional roof repair can arise naturally over time or as a result of some specific event or circumstance—most often weather-related.  For both sloped and flat roof repair, Toronto residents should remain vigilant for potential damage or threats. Any rooftop will undergo some wear and tear over time in response to season changes and temperature shifts. Repeated exposure to snow, wind, rain, and fallen branches or other debris is bound to cause even minor damage, and it’s best to fix this damage before it becomes major. Any extreme weather event, like a snowstorm, heavy winds or hail, can result in damage. Hail damage repair is important because the damage probably won’t be isolated to a particular area; hail damage can threaten the integrity of much or all of your roof. For your typical asphalt roofing, this means that the protective granules are destroyed upon impact. A quick and easy way to check for possible hail or storm damage is to examine the trees and shrubs in your yard as well as any patio screens or furniture. If you see a lot of damage in the surrounding environment, chances are your roof needs some professional attention, too. Any type of damage to your shingles or roof—bent or missing shingles, mold or mildew, insecure flat roofing seams—can cause leaks. Leaks are a common, stressful and damaging problem, and leak repair is best done professionally and promptly by Calling (905) 702-2306! Flashing and Gutter Repair Halton Hills services don’t stop with just a roof fix. We can help with related matters and evaluate the condition of your gutters. We will check the flashings that seal Read More »
